About this event

Music is an integral part of worship but, increasingly, music is also the headache part of worship for churches struggling to come to terms with limited resources and the diversity of material on offer. Even for churches where musicians are in good supply there remains the on-going “traditional versus modern” dilemma to resolve.

At this training day we will explore the use of a wide range of music to support the liturgy, with particular emphasis on the needs of the smaller church. However, the training is also likely to be of interest to any ministers keen to broaden the use of music in their church’s worship.

Jan Payne is a professional musician and a Reader serving in the Diocese of Ely. She has over 25 years of experience as a church musician, working in a diversity of styles in large and small churches. She currently directs the new adult choir at Ely Cathedral but is equally happy playing in two, local worship bands. In 1998 Jan was one of four resident musicians at the Lambeth Conference and will be again in 2008. She is also responsible for overseeing the training programme for music ministers in the Diocese of Ely.
